The Mosquito Hub is a national initiative to standardize and connect mosquito datasets across Canada. Data on mosquito biodiversity and surveillance often remain isolated—scattered across museums, government programs, and research labs. By bringing these records together under shared standards, The Mosquito Hub makes them easier to access, compare, and use in biodiversity research, ecological studies, and public health preparedness.
Our Goals
- Standardization – applying common formats and taxonomic references to diverse datasets.
- Accessibility – linking cleaned datasets to public repositories where they can be freely accessed.
- Collaboration – building partnerships with researchers, curators, and institutions across Canada to strengthen mosquito research and monitoring.
Why It Matters
By uniting mosquito data under a shared framework, The Mosquito Hub helps fill critical gaps in Canada’s biodiversity knowledge. It provides a foundation for understanding the impacts of climate change, monitoring invasive species, and supporting public health initiatives related to vector-borne diseases.
Who We Are
Carol-Anne Villeneuve, Ph.D
Carol-Anne is a postdoctoral researcher at Acadia University specializing in Arctic mosquitoes. She leads the standardization of Northwest Territories datasets under the Weston Foundation grant, and her work focuses on making mosquito data across Canada accessible for research and public health.
